Evidence-Based Holistic Primary Care

What is evidence-based, holistic primary care?

Evidence-based, holistic primary care is a whole person-centered approach to preventative healthcare, as well as acute and chronic conditions. Holistic primary care values scientifically-supported treatments and approaches to healing from traditional and conventional medical perspectives, and promotes coordination of care between different types of providers and therapeutic treatments.

Many common conditions in both men and women stem from multiple or complex causes which the evaluation and treatment of can be enhanced by a multi-disciplinary medical approach. Depending on the specific issue being treated and the patient’s individual situation, this approach often leads to more successful outcomes than conventional or alternative treatments alone. Each patient’s situation is examined individually and therapies are customized toward your specific needs.

Principles of holistic primary care

A partnership exists between patient and practitioner in the healing process.

The appropriate use of conventional and alternative methods to facilitate the body’s innate healing response.

Consideration of all factors that influence health, wellness and disease, which includes aspects beyond the physical body such as mind, spirit and community.

A philosophy that neither rejects conventional medicine nor accepts alternative medicine uncritically.

Recognition that good medicine should be based in good science, inquiry driven, and open to new paradigms.

Use of the least invasive intervention possible to provide effective treatment.

The broader concepts of promotion of health and the prevention of illness as well as treatment of disease.

Practitioners as models of health & healing, committed to the process of self-exploration and self-development.
