Dr. Serena McKenzie, ND, IF, NCMP has been working in healthcare since 1995. She is an evidence-based, holistic primary care physician and expert in sexual medicine, focusing on menopause care and pelvic floor dysfunction.
A 2004 graduate of Washington’s own Bastyr University, Dr Serena obtained her doctorate in naturopathic medicine and completed a family medicine residency at Bastyr Center for Natural Health. Since then, she has been in private practice and formed her primary care practice Whole Life Medicine in 2006.
Dr Serena’s experience includes having worked alongside a holistic gynecologist Mary O’Connell MD and UW Professor of Sociology Dr Pepper Schwartz. In 2013, she joined Washington Urology & Urogynecology PLLC and developed the former Northwest Institute for Healthy Sexuality, a specialty care center for people experiencing sexual concerns. Most recently, in 2020, she launched Dr Serena Healthcare which encompasses all of the clinical care collectives she has fostered in the past, including holistic primary care, as well as expert subspecialty services for sexual complaints in men and women, healthy aging and menopause, as well as pelvic floor disorders.
Dr Serena is triple certified as a sexual medicine fellow (IF) through International Society for Women’s Sexual Health (ISSWSH), a nationally certified Menopause Practitioner (NCMP) through the North American Menopause Society (NAMS) as well as a sex counselor through American Association of Sex Educators and Therapists (AASECT). She specializes in a multi-disciplinary, whole life approach in evaluation and treatment of primary care complaints, with expert attention as well to sexual concerns, pelvic floor dysfunction and healthy menopause. She is a solo physician in practice in Dr. Serena Healthcare, and works alongside urology and urogynecology providers.
